Very interesting indeed. The Ashalan excerpt I believe regards naga, and their abomination form caused when they enter the burning sands, the fire salamanders. The Ashalan are an immortal race that suffers from a relative lack of progeny, it was them who cursed the naga at an early age, the naga have never been happy with the Ashalan since.
Mareshi is the child of the naga, Mara, he is the current Daimyo of the Mirumoto family, and Kei's spouse. I would not be surprised to see both Mareshi and Kei disappear with this storyline. Although I'm surprised that Mareshi is a monk in this particular story, it will have been many years now.

kei is preggo in current arc, so child is 1/4 naga. satsu's kid is 1/4 kami. if those two marry to unite the Dragon lines, then... result is... super snake-dragon? yesssss
