What should be the format?
The Forgotten Bay Charity Tournament (Columbus Day Weekend)
We are putting together what should become an annual tournament for the Southeast. Most of us go without L5R after GenCon until Kotei season starts again due to our location and distance to Jeweled events. We're hoping to change that. So with that said, I open up the thread to the masses and ask for your input and ideas. If you plan on coming please chime in and let me know how many are coming so that I can start planning details. This thread will update more frequently the closer we get to the date and as information comes in. The details are:

I will donate a sword for top of clan (of my choosing) and a Tanto for second place (for seppuku immediately after... no seriously)

Something to consider that I completely spaced out on earlier. Given the timeframe (and with a little fiddling) this can either be a 'gtfo celestial' or a 'wtf emperor edition' tourney. Either way I should be able to shanghai a carload down.

It's funny that you said this, because we literally had the same discussion. We weren't sure if we wanted to do a "Send off for Celestial" tourney, which would bring in more players since they want to compete with their fav decks one last time, or a "Welcome Empire Edition" tourney, which would bring less pull, but also be able to set the tone for EE by being one of the first big tournaments of EE. Basically get to help build the environment.
I think with the timing it will be a send off for celestial, but that being said, there's no reason why we can't have another tourney 1-2 months later when EE is surely legal (maybe up in atlanta to be fair to you guys up there). Best of both worlds?
And this WILL be a sword tourney, for those interested.

Are we expecting AEG prize/other support on this?

Re: The Forgotten Bay Charity Tournament (Columbus Day Weekend)
This is still in discussion with AEG. It is our goal to get this to be officially sanctioned though, since we are hosting it as a charity event. If nothing else, it could be seen as our "bid" for a winners choice, which we got last year anyways, and I believe was very successful (aside from the really super popular ones, ours had one of the highest turn-outs at 29 IIRC)

No guarantees but I'm working on it. Also if anyone has a favorite charity please let me know as i'm considering a few if we don't go with the food drive. Also updated with a poll, please vote.

I think food drive is fun, because it is very visceral. People kind of know what they are donating, and see the total amount donated at the end of the day. (also makes for neat photo-ops).
If not that though, I don't particularly have any specific charities that I would choose over any others.
As we discussed, I like the idea being 10-15$ entrance fee, + 10-15 cans. So that way everyone donates a little, instead of just one or two people throwing down hundreds of dollars for the honor event.

Since I can never get logged on to the AEG forums for some reason can someone get this posted into the Local Events section? Thanks

Well, if we are doing a "welcome to emperor edition" then it will have to be like a month or 2 later. EE probably wont be legal until december. How about we hold off on posting the event until we are absolutely sure on the dates/details.

Dear Anthony,
I will be drafting the post GenCon tournament schedule in the coming
weeks. I will keep your request in mind and will let you know. On
principle, there is no reason we shouldn't be able to provide you with
prize support and/or a storyline prize.
Best Regards,
Nicolas

Re: The Forgotten Bay Charity Tournament (Columbus Day Weekend)
I have applied for the tournament formally based off of today's info on L5r.com This was the enclosed letter.
Winner's Choice Tournament & Name a Card Tournament (Preferring Name a Personality & Name a Holding)
TO: Anthony Padron
TO's phone# 813-270-0779
TO's email address: kakita.hideo@yahoo.com
Forum Handle: Kakita Hideo xp
Proposed Location: Anthem-Games(Stronghold store ID#42664) Tampa, FL
Proposed Entry Fee: $25 or $15 + canned goods for charity
Proposed Date: 10/8 or 10/15
I previously contacted you regarding a tournament for http://www.theforgottenbay.com/
The goal is to become the gathering point for the Southeastern US
player base so that we can compete with the Northeastern and Western
L5R players. Ideally we would like a name a card tournament (which i
have also applied for) but we will leave that up to you. As a reference
we hosted last years winner's choice at the same store and believe we
ran a successful event. We will have seating for 70 comfortably and will
provide the same level or above prize support that we did last year
(sword, complete personality sets, rare sets, and promos). Our goal is
to eventually prove to be worthy of a Jeweled Championship for the
South. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
I hope we get the opportunity once again and that we as a group can show a united interest. For those close to Tampa, please renew your IA membership and select our store as your stronhold store. For those not local please ask those players in the Southeast to please come on our site and register so that we can start gaining momentum. As much as i would like to be able to offer you all a "name a card" tourney I will need the numbers to make it happen. If there is anything you can think of to help make this possibility let me know by posting here. Thank you all for reading and wish us all luck.

In my Inbox;
Dear Anthony,
You may run the tournament on October 8. We will send the kit to the
store unless we hear otherwise from you about a month before the event.
I will get in touch with you with the type of card the tournament will offer.
I am continuing to confirm all the details with Nicolas but looks like the 10/8 day is approved. More details to come. I will have a pre-registration link hopefully put up soon so that everyone can lock in their spot for this tourney. Please post here if you intend to go. Hotel and Restaurant info will also be posted soon.

you know it! Sometimes you need to talk to them face-to face. All of the AEG guys are awesome in person. Also more news came out that Spooky from the Crane forums has accepted the offer to join the story team. He has some fan-fics on the crane site if you want to read up on his style but i expect good stuff from him.
