Monday 1/21/2014 Intro to Ivory Thoughts
I had a blast last night. A lot of fun just flipping cardboard and seeing everyones decks.
I was really impressed with Aaron. I mean, he's still new, so there's still a little bit of room for learning on his end, but in general, he's got a good mind for the game and was making very educated and well thought out plays. I think he's not only going to be fine, but he's going to fit in very well with the group.
I wish I could have gotten more games in.
I wish we could have started sooner.
But it's good. I feel like I'm in a good place, and having now played shitty sensei like 25 times in the last week, feel like I'm making progress. I don't think the deck will ever be phenomenal, and is missing some key support that can't really be fixed on a fundamental level due to the clunkiness of the very design of the theme... but I really want to work the deck. It's like a little project, just turning it ever so slightly over time to put it on a path to greatness. To be quite honest, the deck has much more bite than I thought it would, and the current incarnation is far and away better than what I thought the deck would be capable of. So there's that.
We'll see, we'll see. But good games everyone!
How does everyone else feel about their deck? What questions do you have? What problems are you trying to find answers for? Since we can only realistically meet once per week (although I'd like to schedule a sunday tournament every other sunday or something like that... something during the day so we don't run late) lets try to be vocal and helpful on here.

Definitely was fun and its good to flop cardboard with friends again and try stuff out. Ill have to tweak some stuff in my deck but im pretty happy with it. I like how the assessment of cards has changed and im hoping everyone is keeping an open mind on cards in their deck as you might find something great, I think every clan has a viable deck/ except phoenix.

Overall I love the environment. I agree on aaron, it's the perfect environment for a new player because it puts the emphasis on choice and the ability to think through each action of a battle. We both made our play errors in our game but it was cool to face up against a lion and lose (or win) by 1 card, or 1 mistake.
Gonna stop hamhawking and just play good cards. I'll give shi-tien-yen-wang sensei a try out of your deck list and whatever Anthony thinks up. I expect poop deck soon!

Ya, sorry I was late, but I am glad I made it. I was excited to test my Kensai deck, and it looks like it has its teeth well arranged. Besides some play errors, I think I did very well. The tempo of this arc is very different form the past, and continued playing and testing will show us how the meta of the arc is formed.
I plan, at the moment to keep the Kensai as my main. I have a working Enlightenment deck, but Water and Earth I am still struggling with, but now that the gold has been reworked, I might have some better people on deck to help me with those issues. The Tamori deck is untested, but my fav. I need to test it, and rework the gold on it, the later is not flowing well at all.
It is exciting to play against different types of decks. =)

Jason, your deck had promise. It was a starting deck, one that was untested until last night. I wouldn't ditch it. I would refine it. Try putting in actions into your hand that have solid battle actions. Bowing, unbow, force reduction, followers and items that do things is also awesome. Your gold needs to be rethought as well, but Sleep pointed that out. You have something, and big dude crab really is a thing.
