Come to think of it...

Daigotsu sacrifices himself and dies for
his entire clan, and really the whole Empire, including those who don't
believe in him. He goes to Jigoku. Then, he rises from the dead more
powerful than ever before, and many begin to worship him. He protects
everyone from evil, but if you accept him as your personal savior, he'll
strengthen you with saving power.

So basically he's Jesus. Daigotsu is evil Jesus. For Rokugan.
