Guy takes pill; becomes incredible. Can do things he couldn't before. Possible side effects: frantic activity, racing heart, death...
So: an ad for Viagra!

I felt that it was more a statement about the seeming addiction our society has to energy drinks. Monster, Red Bull, Five Hour Energy, or just whatever they pick up at one of the Starbucks located on every other corner in any major metropolis. The apparent inability to accomplish anything without a little "pick me up" and no real care (and in many cases no knowledge) of any potential side effects short term or long term. Don't get me wrong, I am a frequent caffeine drinker and have consumed a fair number of energy drinks in recent years, but watching this movie made me take a real hard look at how frequently I consume those energy drinks, why I do so, and if I really need the boost.

Wow, way to take a frivolous post and strip it of humor.
OtOH, I agree with your assessment. I like watching movies and TV shows for the subtext, the undercurrent that holds everything together. I think you might have the right idea here, that it is a fun romp with a strong study of consumerism buried somewhere in there. It isn't really even about beverages or foods, but rather about our attitudes in all our decisions. To give another level of the example, I am constantly tired at work, so my first reaction is to go buy Mountain Dew. I am pretty sure that caffeine has a calming effect on me, a sort of "downer" effect, yet my consumerism tells me I just need more of the same chemical. (Just recently I went back to drinking water at work, and no longer fall asleep.)
But seriously - Viagra!
