Embers of War Prerelease at Dark Side! 05/05/12 *CONFIRMED*

Alright! The Embers of War Pre-Release will be on Saturday, May 5th at 1:00 PM. Here are the current details:

What: Embers of War Pre-Release
Where: The Dark Side, Sarasota FL (let me know if you need directions)
When: Saturday, May 5th at 1:00 PM
Entry Fee: $30.00
Format: Sealed (Embers of War Starter Deck, 1 pack of EE and 2 packs of Embers of War), Swiss Rounds
Prizes: Prizes include the much anticipated Den of Iniquity for participation, and Embers of War packs.

Embers of War Starters will be distributed randomly, but, of course, players are allowed to trade decks before they are opened. I figure 1 EE and 2 EoW packs is fine, lets you get the new cards and the EE pack gives you some good standard stuff to work with. Also, Embers of War will be available for regular purchase if you feel like getting more cards!

I am planning to have enough product for 24 players based off attendance for the Emperor Edition Sealed Event. I will try to get a rough headcount in this forum, so if you represent a group or will be bringing additional players, please let me know so I can factor this in and prepare for more than 24 players if I need to.

The Honor Event for the Dark Side Embers of War Pre-Release Event will be a Haiku Contest!
Write an awesome haiku and include a short description about who wrote it (a character of your own creation!) and why.
The winner will get a Dragon Clan water/drink jug!

You do not have to participate in the Pre-Release to be eligible to win the Honor Event, but you must be present!
However, if you cannot be present, you may appoint a proxy to represent
you. Your proxy may not also participate in the Honor Event, however.

May 5th will almost certainly be the best day for us folks in Gainesville, considering the time it take to get down there.

I'm there... please make sure we have enough decks for everyone, gonna throw in my hat for a unicorn deck right now.

If anyone wants to play but doesn't want their deck, I'll throw down for someone to play spider, need the spider deck as well.

Is it going to be sealed or a draft?

If I have to choose... the 4th. Sats are hellish for Chris and me.

I had planned on this being a sealed, but I can schedule a draft down the road if I have enough interest.
Free Comic Book Day will not interfere with our space or my ability to run the event, so that's good.
Right now I've got Gainesville in favor or Saturday, the 5th and two guys in favor of Friday, the 4th, and a couple who just said there were down for playing, but no date.

For those who didn't specify, please let me know which day is best. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, I'm afraid.

I'd very much be down for the pre-release but Friday is really bad for me. I can only swing taking off early from my job so often for card tournaments I'd def vote for Saturday.

Saturday... they always tend to be better plus then I don't have to deal with the after work bullshit.

Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that any player will get their preferred Clan.

However, I will ask players what their preferred Clan is, and if I can fulfill EVERYBODY'S preferences, then I will do so. If I cannot, then Starters will be distributed randomly and then players are free to trade amongst themselves before opening the product.

What do you mean by sponsor? Ive no real interest in Spider, Im just curious about the terminology (Im very new to the CCG, came over from the RPG).

Pretty much, a player who is "sponsored" has their entry fee paid for, and gets to play in the tournament for free. But all product (IE the starter, any boosters, etc) that were used for the event are forfeit to the person who sponsored you. In addition, you also give up any winnings you earn to the sponsor.

Basically, if you wanna come out and have some fun for free (well, minus gas money) getting sponsored isn't a bad idea. But if you actually want to keep the cards that you play with and any winnings from the event, you don't.

Just a reminder that our event is just a few days away! I just got in the promos from AEG and they coincidentally and rather conveniently sent 24 playsets of Den of Iniquity, so I don't expect us running short like we did for the Emperor Release.

Also, I will be preparing an "Utz! Banzai!" ceremony. I think its a lot of fun, but if most people don't, I'm fine with skipping out on it.

Thanks for holding the event, I enjoyed it thoroughly... Also I felt that the unicorn stronghold was an enjoyable experience for a generic deck, felt nice making those bad tacticians (like the flurry of boxable ones, or the 10 gold for 5 force won) worth their weight in gold.
