gencon 2011 info
FYI Jun 18 is last day to pre-reg for badges online, 4 day passes are 68 pre-reg and 78 door price
Unlike other conventions i've been too, Gencon likes $, so they charge extra money for entry fees ontop of the badge to get in the door. For l5r the grinders and second chance are $8, the championship is free, sealed is 8 and draft is 12 (draft is totally worth the cost lol). Most other events are ~8.
Note AEG is usually good about giving a crap ton of products away, so this event cost is generally made up for.
Also the cool peeps get their own tourney (invitational) thursday that runs concurrent to the grinder. And IMO the best event of the show is on friday- name a card War of Honor event. So extra incentive to qualify on the first day. On saturday there is nothing wrong with doing the second chance if you don't qualify, in fact last year's euro championship had a better story prize for the second chance. I've met people who said the best thing to do is grind it thursday, and spend friday doing other stuff, checking out other games whether they make it in or not.
Other costs:
cheapest room i found is $55 per night at super 8, 15-20 min away. This is prob your best bet if you drive. We stayed an hour or so away last year and it wasn't too bad.
$10-15 daily for parking
food (biggest expense)
$30-50 clan dinner depending on the clan/location. expensive, but that spider one was totally worth it last year had i gone!
Almost exactly 2000 miles round trip if you drive, at $4 gas and 20 mi/gal that is $100 per person in car of 4 (what we ended up giving Aaron last year). A little less prob as gas price expected to go down, but $100 is a good estimate.
I'm not sure I can go yet, must save more brownie points... but I dug up these numbers since Anthony was wondering about it last night
P.S. very important, as Aaron unfortunately discovered, in the state of Indiana U-turns are not allowed unless specifically specified by sign

If we hadn't hijacked your threat, then we would be allowing the fear and hatemongering to continue. Not removing your threat would be letting the terrorists win.
God bless Amerukuh!
